Building a lightening cloud (lamp)

    Hi there,

 

This will be my first Arduino project ever and I want to make sure it goes well. I am trying to follow the directions here:

 

How to make a Lightning Cloud - All

 

So far all I have are the fabric bits, the soldering gun, and a cart full of things online at Adafruit. I was wondering if someone might be able to discern if this is all I need:

    Hello Jade,

     

    sounds curious as this project is one I have judged for this contest in Instructables image

    I my opinion you have all what you need. Probably you will use a more complex neopixel set and in this case you will get better results.

    Awesome, just my luck then. Yes, the neopixels were not the same as what was mentioned in the instructions, and were a suggestion from someone in the comments of that 'ible. Or were you suggesting I use something other than what's in my cart?

     

    I'm rather excited. If these are all the parts I need to find, then all I have to do is click 'order', solder the parts, code, and giftwrap.

    I think you can. To be honest I don't know the board but I think that is one of the Arduino clones and it will work fine. The use of these other Neopixels set no matter, as I wrote above I think you can get better results. Then for issues we are here.

    Maybe that it's the worth to take a look (frankly I think no) is this alternative neopixel set consume more power than the other, just not to have surprises about the rechargeable battery duration.

     

    I suggest (but it's almost obvious) that you breadboard all the circuit before then make the cloud and assemble the final version.

     

    Btw: I suppose you have at home a breadboard, is true? And don't forget a prototyping PCB for the final assembly if you plan to make it permanent.

    Negative on the breadboard. As far as electronics and parts, all I have is the soldering gun, the cotton, and a place to work. I'll have to add breadboard to my adafruit list. I also did not have a prototyping PCB. I've soldered a thing or two before and assumed I could just follow the directions (which did not include a breadboard) and move on to programming. Sorry if that is something obvious I should have known... its been years since I soldered anything and rarely anything complex.

    Well, I think you don't increase too much your budget with a breadboard and a prototype PCB or two (after the first project you become addicted, don't you know?) If you can I suggest to buy a cheap but almost decent soldering iron. This project seems the moment to start trying soldering has arrived image Anyway, the breadboard is indispensable.
