Arduino. Serial.Read()

Dear colleges,

Thanks a lot. There are very useful material here. But I have some problems:

this is my code:

image

void setup() {

  // put your setup code here, to run once:

  Serial.begin(9600);

}

void loop() {

  // put your main code here, to run repeatedly:

  if (Serial.available() >0){

  int val = Serial.read()- '0';

  Serial.println(val);

  }

}

and this is result:

image

when I print in SerialPort: 1

SerialPort write:

1

-35

-38

when I print in SerialPort: 2

SerialPort write:

2

-35

-38

Why it's heppen?

The -35 and -38  are negative acknowledge and device control 2 respectively.

But I want print only my variable, like you in your code.

    Ah, my coding abilities are a tad limited to help out here -- let's move this to the Arduino space and see who's got some cunning plans on how to solve this!

    Lesson 1 gives a better way of dealing with the new line, carriage return characters. To turn them off in the monitor/console is really avoiding the issue, in this series I programmatically work around them. Also when your receiving information via serial or other communications you always end up with some kind of termination characters and therefor your avoiding learning about something that you will have to deal with sooner of later (Probably sooner), my lessons go on to more complex examples and also how to parse multi parameter strings received via serial or network etc.

    Hope you like what you find.
