Arduino and big LCD display interfacing

Question

i want to display pictures from my SD card reader to the LCD display which is connected to an arduino. so far i havent seen any display options other than small tft lcds shields.

i'm a big noob with arduino and its interfacing.

where should i begin and if this is even possible or not ?

Secondly, typical Arduinos have very little RAM available so even with an SD card or something to store the image, you will rapidly run out of space to process the image.

Using a Raspberry PI or other similar device with HDMI or DSI type outputs provides a far simpler and probably cheaper solution

The biggest I have used so far for an arduino is about 7" but this is an intelligent display that has its own SD card slot (Think a electronic picture frame but far more intelligent)
