Can you visualize movement?

jojonl

Hi guys,

I'm playing around with a passive robotic arm with only a couple or rotary sensors inside. All connected to an arduino.
Getting the numbers is no problem of course, but is it possible to visualize the input to something like pygame? Would be cool to mirror the real life movement to something digital.
The idea came to me when I saw it done in a jurrasic park 'making of'. Where they had a stop motion dino with sensors. Every movement was translated to Maya of 3dsmax. That's a bit to far for me. Just a 2d visualization would be nice.
Any ideas?

"Every movement was translated to Maya of 3dsmax. That's a bit to far for me."

Why? Be ambitious - I'm sure you could afford a copy of Blender.

If you can program getting the numbers with the Arduino, you should be able to do something with the Python interfacing to Blender. (Then all you've got to do is worry about what you're going to wear to the Oscar ceremony.)

If you're not familiar with matrix transformations, a old computer graphics textbook would help (you should be able to find one cheap on-line) - the basic mathematics doesn't change. Foley's book went through it quite well (and there was an appendix on vectors, in case you were a bit rusty on the details) - I'm sure other texts were much the same.
