ESP32 Camera Project

Question

I recently took on a project for school where I would like to display a custom message when a face is detected. I have an ESP32 camera and arduino uno and want to know how I can run the ESP32 cam facial detecting and run certain code when a face is detected on an arduino that will display a message on a led or lcd display. I know how I can write code for the display however I don’t know how to get the arduino to detect whether or not the ESP32 cam detected a face. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Justin, I haven’t used the ESP32 for this but have done something similar with a Rasberry Pi. Espressif has provided functions on GitHub for facial recognition with cameras - e.g. ESP-WHO and ESP-FACE. A quick look shows that ESP-FACE returns the coordinates of any face detected in the frame when called. The GitHub repository uses the Espressif tools but maybe someone has put an Arduino wrapper around it. A basic approach would be to make a call to the face detection function and if it returns coordinates display the message.

Try to modify the facedetect code, such that on successful detection triggers the gpio of esp32, which can be further used as an interrupt on Arduino.

Hi Justin, while working on the ESP32Cam by AiThinker, I have tried to replicate the Face Recognition query, on successful registration and detection, you can trigger output on remaining GPIOs or you can produce an interrupt for your Arduino UNO, that would further drive the custom message on the display. Remember!
