Help. Newbie here.

Former Member over 10 years ago

I am new in Arduino and still do't know what to do. Like what kind of Arduino to use on my project (which is Sensitive CCTV that allows remote connection and low power costs) and how to start learning the tricks. Please guide me. I need to learn this for my CAPSTONE due on December. All kinds of help is appreciated.

Yes, I would like to make a CCTV surveillance camera with

    1) motion sensor that activates the recording capability when the normal scene changes or there are movement captured on the camera.

    2) accessible remotely via android or any device.

    3) low power cost

    4) can send notification via email and sms

    5) low cost of implementation because of tight budget.

Thank you for the help in advance.

    Hello Divina,

I think that the remote accessibility maybe better and simplified in a lot of aspects if you orient your low budget to a Raspberry PI + Camera. Using Arduino you should consider and external camera, the problems to share the camera feed (and Arduino is not the better solution, IMO it is not the solution at all) and also some problems with the remote connection.

I have developed a board (that is compatible with Ardui, ChipKit and Raspberry PI) to control movement, camera features in the case of an external camera and more. Anyway if you consider the extra parts that you should add to the Arduino board respect the few components that you need with the RaspberryPI probably the budget is just 10% less with the Arduino. Maybe we should make a more precise amount calculation but the difference is almost meaningless. With the advantage that the Raspberry PI opens the door to a wider horizon on both programming possibilities (from Python to C+, to graphic programming and more) and better hardware knowledge. Instead if you need only to control the motion parts with the microcontroller and use an external camera Arduino maybe perfect for the scope too.

Thank you for enlightening me with that statement. I think I need to re-document my proposal and try to change my hardware. May I know where can I learn the Raspberry PI and what are the necessary materials to do that? Thank you again.

    Hello Enrico,

I'm also a newbie and I am struggling with developing a sketch that can read and write data from 2 or more accelerometers (the MMA7361 to be precise) connected to an  Arduino DUE, in BURST mode to be stored on an SD card temporarily to reduce any effect caused by latency. I have surfed the web for any available sketch to no avail.

Do help if you can. Thankyou.
