Hi everyone,

I have posted that question on many EE forums , but it remains unanswered and thats why im posting it here- i think some people here will be able to come up with something.

Anyway heres the deal- An rc helicopter remote controller has a potentiometer for roll, pitch and yaw movement

Im interested in the Yaw movement - im building a cockpit and i cant figure out how to split that pot into two pots (yaw is controlled by two pedals in a real heli)

I need to come up with a mechanical or electrical solution...so far i have came up with this idea - there will be a micro switch on each pedal + the pot.

When , say left pedal is pressed the switch bypasses the second pedal's pot and its like its not there and vice versa, but im not sure how reliable would that be

    What you need is a pot that will return to center. You could probably do it with a normal pot. For example a 0 - 200k, Center would be 100k, so left pedal would be 0 - 100K and the right pedal would be 100K to 200K. The trick then would be to get it to return to center when the pedal was released. Maybe a servo could do that. (or maybe a pot that is 100K - 0 - 100K not sure if those exsist)

    the return is not the problem i could have a simple spring restoring the position, its how to :

    1- connect the two pedals with a single pot and when you press one pedal the other doesnt go up(see-saw type as YT2095 suggested)

    OR

    2- connect two pots somehow, and then the mechanical part is easy

     

    ..ok theoreticly, i can bypass a pot by pressing a button, right, when pressed the button opens the 5v connection to the pot , so its like that pot is not there, and if i put that button on the other pedal, when its pressed  it will get readings on its own pot and turn off the other...

     

    and the other not so pretty possibility would be the see-saaw type, with a single pot, so when you push one pedal the other pops up

    i cant think of anything else..
