PC game to Arduino interface

Help!!!

I’ve gotten in, a little over my head. Trying to help my 13 year old daughter with her school project, I find that I’m a little out of date with technology. Most of what I thought I learned and knew 15 years ago (seems like yesterday), ether does not apply or no longer exist.

 

I have done a few searches in Google, but there is so much stuff on so many different levels, that I am over whelmed. If someone could post a note for Dummies, I’d greatly appreciate it.

 

This is my scenario: I have an Arduino- UNO. I use it to count pulses from a switch. On a pc, I have a game called Game make 8.1 by Yooyoo Company. In short, we want to use the Arduino- UNO as a controller for the game. How do we do this, using the USB cable that comes with the Arduino?

    I am using a reed switch to trigger an interrupt.  We want to take the pulse count, get rpms’ and feed to the PC game as a control variable.

    I’m glad that you mentioned the ability to count. I am using pin 2 (digital) for the interrupt. I was using the “RISING” command, however, the interrupt seems to be triggering on bout the rising and falling edge.

     

    As for my thinking, a button can be a switch, but a switch doesn’t have to be a button. A switch is a device, or devices, that channel or connect. At least that’s what I have come to learn.  If I am wrong, please correct me. Over the last few yours of my children being in school, I’ve learned how much I don’t know.
