Wifi Controlled power strip

So I am pretty new to electronics and I need some insight or atleast point me in the right direction.

I would like to build a power strip with an arduino, wifi shield, and relay board. To control the outlets I would have this tied into and Apache server on my Rpi which would be accessible by PC or Phone.

I am teaching myself basic electronics but I could really use some help. maybe someone already did this and you could send me the link or atleast like I said, point me in the right direction.

Where would the Rpi be located in this setup? The Rpi could be used to drive a relay on its own, no need for extra hardware, and an Edimax wifi adapter for the Rpi is around $10, versus $30 for an Arduino, and $30-$80 for a wifi shield.
