i actually want to somehow include real time clock in my program.. objective is my leds should glow automatically at 5pm and turn off at 8am and we have to use a switch also so that in between if anyone wants to turn it off, he should be able to do it and turn on whenever we want..

    A debounced momentary switch connected to one input pin on the UNO will allow the sketch to toggle a master LED control variable for ON and OFF.  As far as a RTC, are you getting a shield from AdaFruit.com or somewhere?  That might be the easiest way to "MAKE:" it work accurately.  And, of course, there should be a good tutorial to go along with purchased item.

    There are some versions of Arduino boards with built in RTC for very little extra.

     

    This RTC from here includes everything you need, including a sketch, which gives the time.

    All you need to do is use the time to turn the LED on.

     

    There are plenty of examples in the Arduino IDE or tutorials online for controlling LEDs with switches.
