Help with Led "reminder" project

Question

So I have an idea to make an LED reminder system which reminds you of things you have to do, but I have no idea how I would build it. The idea is to have a project box with about 10 buttons on the Long sides (5 on each side) of the project box and little LEDs on the top, wherever the LEDs are placed, there will be pieces of paper indicating what each button represents next to the LEDs . The box would also have 2 buttons on the short side of the project box, one would be used to turn on the leds that had their corresponding buttons pushed and the other would reset the system so it could be used again when it needs to be changed. I'm thinking of using an arduino to power the machine, my problems are: (A) The code. (B) EXACT wiring and componants I know I will need: LEDs Push Buttons Resistors Arduino AA battery case DC "head" (to power the arduino) Any help is really appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Michael,

Possibly two things you may want to try first are to light an LED using the Arduino, and to read a button state.

Once you can do this, then you've got the basic knowledge to extend it further with multiple LEDs and switches, to create the desired behavior for your project.

There is a blinking LED tutorial here, with wiring diagram. This project shows how to read a button press, again with wiring diagram. It sends a message via the serial

port, but by inspecting the code, you can pick out the bits of functionality just related to the button press.
