Help regarding building a roadside speedometer using laser

I am planning to make a speedometer that is kept on sides of a single laned to/fro road to measure the speed of any car passing between. I will keep two lasers on one side of the road, separated by a predefined distance. On the other side of the road, I have two LDRs to find any blockage of laser beam. Thus, I measure time between two blockages of lasers and divide the predefined distance by this time to get hte speed. For implementing it, to find the speed of cars moving in one specifc direction, I have developed the code. But, I want to measure the speed of cars coming in any direction using the same set of sensors. I need help regarding development of code to do that..

    Measuring speed in either direction I would not think is the issue, you are basically looking at which beam is broken first. The real issue I see is having two cars pass a the same time (sounds highly unprobable I'm sure but I'm also sure it happens). That I would think you may be able to filter out with a speed limit, that is if you get crazy speeds (300 km/h) then you know its not right. This will only take care of some cases not all of the cases.

     

    This may sound odd but a good starting spot may be to get two toy cars draw two lines on paper and drive the cars over them and see what cases you come up with and how you can differentiate between them of what commonality you get that can work accross all cases.
