Y PUTTY NOT SHOW CHAR 3, ARDUINO SERIAL MONITOR & PROCESSING DO

Hi,

I'm using putty to look at BT data from arduino.

The EXT, end of text (ascii code 3), doesn't show up. looks like O that's sq.

I see same in arduino's serial monitor and remove this char in processing 2.1,

this char is also the readuntil in processing. If it was not seen the code

would collapse. putty omits this char, there is no char B/W end and start, it

should be char 3.

Y not seen in putty?

Thanks,

Keith

I'd recommend using the "Move" button under the Actions heading on the right side

of your screen, to move this post to the arduino discussion group.  The specified item was not found.

    Hi,

    EXT is a non-printable character.

The first 31 characters of the ASCII code are all non-printable control codes.

Take a look at : Ascii Table - ASCII character codes

So the serial monitor will print anything is thinks it can use to show at least something.

Hi, yes I'm aware of this, Lets say a repeated transmit message of "This is end of tramsmission[char(3)]"  .

Arduino serial monitor and processing 2.1 will look like:

This is end of tramsmission[char(3)]This is end of tramsmission[char(3)]This is end of tramsmission[char(3)] ....

    but putty looks like:

This is end of tramsmissionThis is end of tramsmissionThis is end of tramsmission ...

with nothing B/W end and the next beginning.

I just expected something to reflect the presents of the nonprintable char. I just started playing with putty and

will see if I can learn what it does with this char, .ie does it throw it out?

    Thanks,

    Keith

    Hallo,

    OK, I don't know.

I use TeraTerm for the VT100 protocol.

So I can use clearscreen and cursor commands.

    Works perfectly.

    Hi Henk,

Thanks for your replies. I tried teraterm a moment ago, version 4.79. Looked at serial comunication as with putty and get the same

display. Both tools do not reflect the presence of the non printable char 3.

    Thanks,

    Keith
