Can anyone please help me how can a make a home automation system using Arduino ?

I am going to do a project using Ardunio. What i have decided is to make a home automation system using Arduino, like turning on/off of a light lamp etc

My plan is to connect this light lamp to the microprocessor (Ardunio) and using a WiFi module i will be transmitting the data to an online server so that this data can be accessed anywhere around the globe.

I have no idea from where i can start this project. Will anyone please help me ?

Also i have found this book online but not every sure if its a good book or not.. Home Automation with Arduino (digital version) - Open Home Automation

I hope someone will see this message and give me a satisfying reply

It depends on how far you want to go and what you can build yourself or have to relay on prebuild modules.

The blog http://www.openhomeautomation.net/blog/ gives you good advice. Another good source to start is http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00BBQHAPK/openhomeautomation-20#_

I'm building a system from ground off using PIC, XBee and Raspberry Pi, you can get inspiration on http://www.elektor-labs.com/project/home-automation-with-xbee-modules.13198.html

Succes and have a good time with it,

Just to let you know. Where the root word of  Arduino is.

the un document root of how the chip name came to be.

The original word came from a microchip form Andretti. motorsports. Its was an open source microchip and used in many products over the years. From game consoles through the auto industry.

There was a person who created independent chips sets to the larger company's and the government. That were open sourced.

The person who was developing the boards. was teaching his grandson the industry. The grandson was unable to pronounce the word for the microchip; fully; that came from Andretti. So the nickname. then later on to be the name of the new board became Andrno.
