I2C Slave Discovery

Hi everybody,

I want to connect  many i2c slaves to the Arduino (Master). I need not just to read data from the slaves but also to discover which slave is now connected or disconnected in real time. Any idea how can I write a code for the discovery part?

    If you know the I2C addresses of all the possibly connected parts it's not too hard to locate things that you know might be there. If you don't know at all what might be connected you need to poll every address and try to identify the parts you find. You'll need to be very careful with hardware and software robustness because you'll be addressing parts that aren't there and talking to parts that you don't recognise. I2C is not a very good bus design for this kind of thing.

     

    I2C is not designed for hot connect/disconnect - this will add another dimension of dificulty to the robusteness issue.

    Yes MK the master knows the addresses of the sensors. Is there any suggestion of how to find a code that let the arduino discover that there is a sensor of address X is added or disconnected? Thanks
