Arduino Project just not fully working looking for help.

Hello

I am trying to build a Distance measuring device using an Arduino UNO with a I2C LCD and Wiznet 5100 Ethernet shield and SD all combined.

I have succeeded in the W5100 part but when I add the I2C LCD library and the Wire library for the LCD,the SD part of the Ethernet  shield no longer works properly , as far as the web page is concerned. I am using "ajax" and my SD to display a dial on the web page but the part that fails, with no error codes of any kind is the web page dial. The dial will not load from the SD card. I know that I am trying to use 2 SPI devices along with a I2c device but loading the wire and the LiquidCrystal_I2C libraries and then trying the program the display has no data and neither does the web page as far as the dial goes.

Can anyone give me some insight as to why the SRF05 and the W5100 and SD and LCD don't get along. If I rem out the Wire and the I2C libraries the web page works just fine.

I have attached 2 files for my project, 1 is the code and the other is the htm file for the gauge.

 

I have uploaded the working sketch as far as the Ethernet and SD is concerned but This is only part of what I want. I would like to add the I2c LCD with its libraries and still have the Ethernet part still work.

Probably the best way to see what issue I am having is to bread board this project for youself and see if you can make it work with Ethernet card and SD card and I2C LCD. If you get it to work like I am trying then please let me know.

    I think this thread is a lesson to all of use really. Back in the day when programming on 286 based PC's with 640Kb RAM, the memory problem was forever an issue. My suggestion is to always use the "example…

    I think this thread is a lesson to all of use really. Back in the day when programming on 286 based PC's with 640Kb RAM, the memory problem was forever an issue. My suggestion is to always use the "example" libraries as just that - examples. I think my approach to this project would be to create bare-bones libraries from the examples for each item connected to the Arduino i.e. the end result libraries only do what you require as a maximum - no bells and whistles. It may be a bit of a pain to start with but pays dividends when trying to get the solution working as a whole as you have no doubt found. Besides, just imagine how much your personal knowledge and programming skills will improve!

    Does re-enforce the issue about what you develop on vs what your deploying to, in this case you can use bloated libraries for development on a Mega2560 but then trim the fat to deploy to a lesser mega 328 (Uno) assuming it is close and your not using all the IO. A 2560 allows additional debug while in that phase, I have been in situations where even adding the free_Ram() function was the cause of me blowing the stack, going to the 2560 alowed all the checks to be completed and issues resolved before final deployment to a 328
