I am trying to build a simple pointless box; a box that has a switch when activated, something comes out of the box to turn it off. i dont know where to start, because i would like to program it to have multiple responses. can only be battery powered.

    Since this is in the Arduino section of the discussions, you could use an Arduino and a servo motor to open a lid and hit a switch. This video should get you started...

    It could also be done simply with a start switch (which latches a relay to power a dc motor), a visible switch that gets hit when the motor turns far enough (this switch activates a reversing relay on motor power - also latched),  a stop switch that gets activated when the motor returns home. (this NC switch simply opens and cuts power to the all circuitry)
