Electronics and Creation

Thank you for visiting this discussion. If you can share your wisdom with me, that would mean a ton. I want to pursue electronics/electrical engineering as a hobby to create awesome things (which things I do not know yet because I do not know enough about the subject). However, I have no idea how to start. Should I start buying books to read on electronics/electrical engineering or should I buy equipment or should I just take electronics that I find in my house and break them apart and fix them? Any advice would be awesome.

Hi, My suggestion is to start off with something simple such as this kind of thing: 200 in 1 Electronic Projects Lab Kit - RobotShop No soldering or tools are required beyond a pair of wire cutters and…

Excellent advice alanwood if Jae is at the absolute beginner stage with no electronics background then going this route will avoid a huge headache going forward as the basics will be understood and therefore…

    Dear: Jae

If you are trying to start with electrical/software engineering I actually did the following to become as skilled as I am. Do the following research on electrical which are Diodes, Capacitors, batteries, electrical engineering, Microcontrollers, Switches ,and more. You can find all that stuff here.

Diode - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Capacitor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Battery (electricity) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microcontroller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Electrical engineering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Switch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I understand wikipedia is not the most reliable source for information but that is what I used to learn engineering so if you want a book go here.

Electrical Engineering 101, Third Edition: Everything You Should Have Learned in School...but Probably Didn't: Darren As…

Also for software engineering I had trouble learning it on my own so I read a book and this book I do own myself and it is what I recommend for you.

Amazon.com: Exploring Arduino: Tools and Techniques for Engineering Wizardry (9781118549360): Jeremy Blum: Books

So in that case I wish you good luck and I hope you have as much fun as I did.

    Noah,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my posts and suggesting all these resources. I actually facebook messaged the author of that book asking how I should start my journey in electrical engineering and he responded. He is super nice. And I will take a look at the book that you had suggested as well. Thank you so much!

    Best, Jae Kim
