Arduino IDE and Ubuntu v. 14.04 LTS compatible?

I recently purchased the Ubuntu 14.04 software and replaced my Win.7. I notice that I can no longer use the Arduino software even though I download the appropriate Linux version. Any thoughts would be appreciated...BTW. Some suggestions received thus far were incredibly complex and did not work.

First of all I would like to say I do not own a linux so I am afraid I may be little to no help but I hate to ask what version of linux are you using, what board are you using, and are you downloading the right version of Ubuntu. The problem is either one of the following or something simpler.

Thanks for your advice. I'm not sure of the version of Linux used in this package. I'm using an Uno board. I do know that upon adding some free canonical software, (approved by Ubuntu), I knocked out the Wifi capability and had to reload the sw. I am on an early learning curve in getting really well versed in the commands, syntax, etc. I learned basic many years ago....
