Radio Shack to close stores before bankruptcy

clem57
clem57 over 10 years ago

I have many fond memories of The Shack as they were recently known as. In my little town of Oklahoma, Radio Shack was a part of Allied stores. In here I could go in and see capacitors, resistors, and transistors. Even earlier, I delivered newspapers where they would run a contest. Once I won a 9 transistor radio and was proud because it had so many transistorsimage. Life was nice back then and Radio shack fit in fine. Now grown with an adult son, I wonder what happened to those days. With sadness, an article in the news reports the passing of Radio Shack. I wonder what other folks here may have stories related to this store. To commemorate the news, let's blog and share our special moments in electronics.

Thanks,

Clem

I'll be a fan boy forever. A few years ago, I made a collage of things I own or owned from Tandy: They pulled me (and I guess everyone in Belgium who was young in the 70s and 80s) into electronics.

    Thank you @jancumps,

The picture of the Science fair kit 100-in-1 was the one I had as a kid!

    I've made all 100 of them; a 100 times I think.

Together with my brother. He first bought the 10-in-1 kit. Later we put all our savings together until we had enough cash to buy the 100-in-1.

Must have been 1980 or very close.

image I still have my Science Fair multimeter that I built from a kit.  Great meter -- only needs a battery for resistance.  I still occasionally use it if the battery goes dead in the DMM.
