Will any capacitor work?

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

So I'm working on this project, well more like buying parts for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMgzUGBfXiE

And I have a bunch of these capacitors:

101 Suntan ceramic disk capacitors that is.

And in the video he has two ceramic disk capacitors and two little blue capacitors. My question is, can I build this build without the other type of capacitor or would I need to buy both? If so what is the name for those little blue dudes?

Only the big blue one is an electrolytic, the two small "Dudes" are ceramic caps, an electrolytic would never get to that small a value or work at the frequency required Peter

Hello Jacob Pickens I do not think you can get it done with any type of capacitor... in the video that you linked you can hear that the blue one is a electrolitic capacitor and it is mandatory observe…

Electrolytic capacitor is the blue dudes. Unless you design electronics on the side, I recommend you to follow the instructions especially the coil. Neat idea btw. Enjoy the project, Clem

So it looks like you need

2* 10nF Ceramic Cap (Brown ones)

2* 10pF Ceramic cap (Little Blue ones)

1 Electrolytic Cap (Big Blue one), this one is for AC coupling the audio so probably any value from 4.7uF to over 47uF will do

None of these can be substituted with other values  except the Electrolytic as I have mentioned

    Hope this helps
