Looking for Neopixel resources

askpcguy

Hi Everyone,

To start off I have to mention I am not a programmer or scripter.  I'm looking for some resources or assistance in coding an Arduino to drive a single RGB LED that will be used in a project.

In a nutshell, I am looking for the simplest way to program a slow color cycle with a single RGB LED.

Now I've got the sample/example code from the libraries but have not found ANY resource online that discusses controlling a single RGB led.  Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

BlinkyTape using NeoPixel Library | code, circuits, & construction This is a start for what you seek. I suggest you use as is and "play" with the serial interface. When you learn how the numbers affect the colors, then you can write a looping change in numbers to get the effect you want. In understanding comes a solution. If you need any help, post here.

The AdaFruit libraries for the neopixels work very well and all you need is to change the number of pixels int he chain to 1 and it will work with your project, the demo sketches are very good at showing the colour cycling etc

    Regards

Of course the example code with the neopixel library is easy to make work.  I'm using pin 6 with 1 led.  My problem is beyond that example, I'm unsure what to change to get the desired effect.  For now a slowly color changing rainbow is all I've got uploaded.  There does not seem to be very many tutorials concerning the neopixel.

OK, now I understand your need, the following videos and posts with software may help you on your way.

They were created as part of the IOT of Holiday Lights challange

Of particular interest should be #6 - Baby Trinket, #9 Baby Bob, and #11 Star for the tree

BYOB Party #1, "Bring you own Bulbs" - The Internet of Holiday Lights

All these use the NEO Pixel libraries and especially for Number 11 I came up with different patterns to drive the star in different ways, Have a look and with luck it will give you some ideas on how to proceed
