Arduino UNO Question ??

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Heyy.... I just brought Arduino UNO starter kit few months ago..... Now my arduino does not even work if I plugged to the USB port and uploaded my sketch..... It says port com not found and I even get some electric shocks from the small chip which says 504L on the arduino microcontroller if I plugged the USB into the Arduino UNO R3........ For past few months, it was working really well but all of a sudden it stopped working and even if I plugged the USB over arduino the LED'S does not blink at all... So what would you suggest me to do in order to bring life back to Arduino ????

Thanks

    Hi Sarah,

Do any of the LEDs on the Arduino light up? When you go to "Tools" on the Arduino IDE and click on Port do you get a list of choices? Have you tried other COM choices? There should not be any components on the board that you can get a shock from. At 5 volts max this is below skin sense level, unless you have an open cut in your skin. If you are getting a shock it may be static and coming from your body to the board. If this is the case you may have damaged the board with the static. See if someone you know have another arduino that you can try to rule out your computer and cable as the source of the problem. If the other arduino works and yours doesn't then it is probably damaged. The only easy fix to a damaged board is to try replacing the Micro Processor chip. If you decide to try this, make sure you get a chip with the bootloader pre-installed.

    John

    Hi Enrico,

That is very good to know. I just downloaded the latest IDE but I have not taken the time to explore it yet. Boy am I every going to miss the old procedure to install the bootloader (sarcastic).image

    Hi,

frankly I had to put a bootloader on avr328p and simply from the menu I put upload the bootloader

That's all. Just a couple of weeks ago.

I took a look to the lab desk ... Ehm ... image it's me coming crazy ! I forgot a detail, I have an original AVR programmer from Atmel that I use when I write firmware without the bootloader image image image It's simple because I have connected the programmer to the ISP connector and pressed a button.

But... when I was without this tool I have simply put a clock and a couple of capacitors on a breadboard, connected the arduino as bootloader to the chip on the breadboard and the result was the same, just a minute. If it sounds useful I have already the scheme. Should only search where it is.
