As everybody knows, watches come in many different and crazy styles and it was only a matter of time before someone made one that incorporates an Arduino unit. However some people are not fans of ‘steampunk’ but for those of you who aren’t you still have to appreciate the style of Matthew Garten’s creation. The watch uses an Arduino Mini Pro 328 – 3.3V/8MHz, FTDI Basic Breakout board, 4D Systems OLED module, Blackberry Trackballer, LiPoly Fast Charger, DS1307 Real-time clock(Binary) and runs off of a 3.7V 1000mAh Li=Polymer battery. The watch’s features, thanks to the Arduino, include a sensor for temperature and range detection, a 16 bit drawing program, a ‘Break Out’ style game and can tell the time in binary, analog and digital. What are the monocles for you ask? They are used to magnify the screen to various settings. The watch components are housed in a very space-aged material called ‘wood’ for that overly effective ‘steampunk’ look complete with brass and zinc bolts. The strap is made of leather for the ultimate in ‘sheik’. The total cost for the watch came out to around $250 but depending on how thrifty you are, it could probably be made for less money. All I can say is that you won’t see too many of these strapped to allot peoples wrists, so if you intend to build your own you will definitely stand out in a crowd.
