What Projects Would You Like to Do Around Arduino Days: March 21-23?

 i know its been a little backed up here and we haven't launched a contest since the holidays.    Arduino Days this year is on March 21-23 and we'd like to do something around Arduino for our next contest.   Arduino Day or Arduino Days is an event that centers around the "birthday" of Arduino.   Its also the "birthday" of Project14 which launched on April 14th, 2017.   As tradition would dictate we celebrate these two events together.    

Most likely we'll have an open ended Arduino contest but I wanted to check in with the members to see what ideas or projects you are interested in working on to celebrate Arduino this year?

    Happy Arduino Days! We will do a theme around "Time and Space" using an Arduino board. It will be launched on April 14th, on the 7th Anniversary of Project14. :-).

    Make 1 measurement per day with an Arduino, post it to the internet, and use as little power as possible use any arduino use any mechanism to get the info on the internet (wired, radio, ...) measurement…

    Similarish theme, could be anything to do with time and space. There was for instance a element14 presents video related to astronomy recently (I'm on mobile, so don't have the link as easily to hand)…

    LiteWeight Gaucho Planisher

    Planishing machines tend to be large and massive. It occurred to me that a pair of (perhaps ball peen) hammers could hang from a support so that the business ends barely touch each other. The intent is to have them bounce off of each other like clackers and sound like an upside down metronome which clicks when the hammers collide. Inspiration..

    Hang a sheet of metal between the hammers from a cord hooked through the hammer support and you can planish a thinner area in the sheet with two hammers and no anvil. Sensing when each hammer strikes the sheet and the other hammer and replacing lost energy in each swinging hammer with the arduino is the challenge. Extra credit for arduino control of sheet. Don't let it drive you clackers.

    Might want to be careful when striking two hardened faces together without anything between.

    You could probably achieve this using a simple cam arrangement. Rotating cam pushes the hammers apart then lets them drop at the end of travel, like a trip hammer.

    Alternatively you could perhaps use a solenoid to give the hammers a kick apart every cycle. Some clocks use this technique to give the pendulum a kick to keep it swinging.

    With it being metal you could perhaps use electrical conductivity to detect when the hammer touches the metal as it will complete a circuit. Don't forget to debounce the signal to clean it up.
