Inviting the community of Engineers to teach the younger generation

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

I do volunteer with local non profits in Northern New Jersey to teach kids robotics, programming and math, after-school or on week-ends (2 hours commitment/week).

They are desperate for engineers with electronics background to help introduce the kids to soldering, circuits, Arduinos, wearables,...

If there are members of this community interested in impacting the life of younger kids by devoting 2 hours/week for 6-8 weeks, then please post/Private Message.

Locations in Summit, Newark, Elizabeth,...

You could also have the kids join Element 14 to ask questions and interact with engineers.

For some of your students, it might be easier for them to see what good soldering and projects look like so that they have a well defined goal available.

Those are good resources that are certainly appealing to the self-motivated kid who has already had some exposure.

For the 99% of the kids who have never seen a soldering iron and who do not know anything about electronics, many community organizations try to structure programs that go to their school of community center and give them that first chance to get exposed. After that, they might have seen enough to get the hang of it and to expect self motivation to kick-in.
