Control 10 NeoPixel colours with 3 colour sliders on mobile phone using WiFi

Hi

I have 10 Neopixels connected to a Ardafruit ESP8266 Huzzah and i would like to change the colour of them using my mobile phone.

I have made 3 sliders (Red,Green,Blue) using M.I.T App inventor and can get values from 0 - 255 for each of them but i don't know how to receive these vaulues being sent from my phone.

Can someone create a small Arduino sketch for me please , just to read one of the vaules, i can repeat for the other 2.

Thanks

Adrian

    Hi adetuc

Sounds like a fun project. If you look at my blog post:

    https://www.element14.com/community/people/neilk/blog/2014/09/05/app-inventor-bluetooth-and-arduino-part-3-android-slider-controls-led-brightness

You will find both my App Inventor code blocks and a simple Arduino sketch to read the data sent by the Android device and control LED brightness.

    Hope this helps

    Neil

    Hi Neil,

Thanks for the quick update , its almost what i wanted but I am using a WiFi board not a Bluetooth board.

Can you send me any info or an Arduino sketch for reading vaules sent over WiFi?

The App inventor layout will stay almost the same, just need to replace BT with a Web component.

    Hi Ade

Afraid I haven't done any work linking App Inventor on an Android device to Arduino using WiFi.

I have played around with an Arduino web server displaying jQuery sliders in a browser to control a Tri-colour LED. Obviously, any device which supports a web browser can be used access the server and thus control the LED. It's messy and a bit unstable. I never resolved the instability problems so I never wrote it up in my blog.

I imagine you will need a web server on your Arduino to  manage the data coming from your Android device, but I can't suggest more than that. There are examples of Arduino web servers in the examples provided with the IDE

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

    Good luck

    Neil
