Measuring speed, angle and height

Hi all,

 

I am discussing a possible project, but I am not certain how feasible it is. The project consists of using an Arduino, plus some sensor (or sensors) to measure the speed, angle and height of a flying object over a 6 x 30 cm surface. Although I am unfamiliar with the details, the object will pass over the surface and the Arduino needs to get how fast it is moving, the angle at which it crosses the surface and the distance from the surface to the object.

 

I posted a rough sketch below.

 

Can some one please provide some feedback as to how feasible this is and what sort of sensor(s) will be needed? Thanks! Salvador

    Here is a technique that might work - the accuracy depends on how well it is implemented. start with a narrow beam LED (preferably collimated) or a laser shine it through a section of a cylindrical lens…

    Hello @Salvador Garcia

    If your object size is big then you can interface barometric sensor to calculate height of that object (with respect to celebrated surface) and By using acclerometer and tilt sensor you can calculate its angle with calibrated surface. This things are done with complex programming as per your requirement.

    Hello Salvador Garcia..... You have to make a special tennis ball which have barometric sensor  inside it and can transmit data wireless and configure reference surface. By this way you can calculate  height. In cricket ICC and other use snickometer to detect whether edge of bat is touch to bat or not such like you put Barometric sensor inside ball.

    Well, actually, the Snicko doesn't work like that  - it uses a microphone to listen for the ball hitting things.

    I like the two plane idea.  If you set up the detector on a comparator, and use the trigger on an interrupt line...  Then, using a timer capture, you should be able to measure down to uS(micro-seconds) pretty accurately.  make a "box" to give two planes in each direction, and you can get direction and speed.  You could probably get away with using an Arduino Uno.
