Arduino vs. Raspberry Pi

I got an Arduino for christmas last year which I unfortunately bought off of ebay. However, after all the troubles I had encountered ordering it with them and got my money back I was looking at Raspberry Pi boards as well. What are your thoughts on each board? Which do you guys prefer to use for your projects?

Here's the answer I gave to a similar questions last year: Your question poll brings to mind a favorite scene in Alice in Wonderland : "Cheshire Puss," [Alice] began, rather timidly... "Would you tell…

It depends entirely on what you want to do. For low-level embedded hardware where you want to play with digital and analog interfaces, Arduino is really nice and easy from what I've seen though I haven…

I have lots of Arduino's and a few RPi. As john indicated it depends what you want to do with it. I would also add the Arduino boot time is almost instant, doesn't care if you pull the power and is generally…

I will vote for raspberry pi since I would prefer to use it for Media Streaming, NAS and Web Server has my main goal, in a near future I will be trying to use some home automation at home and then I think Arduino fits better.

I think it depends whether you want to have video on it(raspberry pi), or analog pins and higher rate 1/0 pins(arduino),

    I just voted randomly..image

The fields of application for the two board are so far away... it's like comparing a car with a truck.. which one do you prefer? It depends on the task you are going to accomplish

    Mark,

You will enjoy the Yun because they marry an Atmel processor with  a small ARM processor. Very flexile together.

    Enjoy,

    Clem

Over the last couple of months I have had a thought. The question of arduino vs Pi is perhaps a bit generic. An Uno vs Pi is not a very good contest but the Yun I am waiting excitedly for, (thanks element14 image), is a different story. A bit of Arduino magic with ethernet and built-in wifi running Linino. I am so looking forward to playing with this bad boy.

Oh, forgot the micro SD card slot!

I think for someone who is just starting in this kind of open source hardware should definitely go with arduino. You can get your basic sketches up in running with only a few lines of C++ code. An  Arduino is very easy to use and can go a long way for any project.

I wrote a piece on this question a while back... perhaps today a bit unfair to the Pi, which is now more mature, and has a community... but the other points remain valid, I think. It's at...

As mentioned multiply times above, it really depends on the application you are going for.

Both have almost infinite possibilities and I would recommend both to anyone.

Horses for courses.. your project don't require much CPU and as such all the complexity of the RPI and Linux just gets in the way. Use what ever gets you the result you want ..
