USB UART

Hellow.

I am using MICROZED board, and i like to establish serial communication with program Visual Studio on computer. Visual Studio will read data from microzed and send him requests for different commands.
My question is , can i make this connection thru USB UART or is USB UART just for console.

The USB-UART simply uses a software driver to make a USB port behave like an RS-232, so anything you can do on a standard serial port should work fine with the USB-UART.

thanks for replay. I thought so. I guess i got problem with initialization of USB UART in xilinx SDK. Becuase i can send to console but i can't send or receive data to ohter programs. I look up all examples in xilinx sdk and i don't know what i am missing. Can you help me?

The UART within your Zynq system really is just a UART and the SDK treats it as such. As long as you have included the UART in your Zynq design and generated a BSP for that design in the SDK there is no other initialization required.

There is UART to USB converter on the MicroZed board that allows you to connect to a USB port on your PC. The software driver Ron refers to is on your host PC to make the USB connection look like a serial port to your program, just as it does for a serial console program such as Tera-Term or Putty in most of the examples for the MicroZed or Zedboard on this site and others. Just determine the COMM port assigned to the USB-UART port and have your program interface to that serial port.

Thank you. I found my error. Now program works fine. My problem was in reading of com port.
