Larger Zynq device?

Former Member

Would it be possible to get a ZedBoard with a larger Zynq device (specifically Z-7045)?

Also, can someone point me to docs that describe how much of the FPGA fabric resources are consumed by the peripherals in the reference implementation?  I can't seem to find any details on this.

Thanks!

There is no plan today for another Zedboard with the xc7Z045 on it, however there is a plan for a Xilinx board.  I do not know the timeline for that board's announcement unfortunately - it will be in line with the release of the XC7Z045 device though.  To get the best estimate you are going to want to contact your local Avnet branch and/or your local Avnet or Xilinx FAE.

As the projects become available exact resource counts will be available for all peripherals within them.  Looks like the first project is available today here: http://zedboard.org/projects  As more projects are posted, more information will be available.

I will pass along the suggestion to provide a break down of how many resources each portion of each projects takes.

The interest of Z030 and Z045 is not only ont the larger size, but also on functionlities: for instance they implement SelectIO and Serial Transceivers. It is a pity not having them on such a nice board!

The XC7Z010 and XC7Z020 devices are based on Artix-7 fabric and IO structures, allowing for lower power with very high performance.  Although the Artix-7 does have high speed transceivers, the Zynq 7010 and 7020 devices do not.

There are development kits that will be available soon that will have the XC7Z045 on them which will provide access to the high speed transceivers available in the Kintex-7 devices.

The Zedboard is intended as a low cost entree level board to allow for the community to enjoy the powerful architecture of the the Zynq-7000 EPP family.  If you are in need of PCIe support for a Zynq device I would recommend going with a Xilinx development kit with the XC7Z045 on it when available.
