UART on ZedBoard

Hi all - first post :)

Please help if you can - I connected my Zedboard to my Windows 10 (64bit) PC for the first time today. The driver automatically installed the Digilent USB to Serial converter, which appears in the device manager. However, it installs no virtual COM port. I have tried uninstalling the driver found by Windows Update, disconnecting from my network, and installing the driver from Cypress (http://www.cypress.com/documentation/software-and-drivers/microsoft-certified-usb-uart-driver) which did not fix the problem. I also noticed that the chip on the board near the USB OTG port is an FTDI FT232, so I subsequently also installed that, but again, to no avail.

Could you please advise?

I don't have a Windows 10 PC to duplicate the issue but you may find some useful information in this post:

Let us know if you find a resolution. If anyone else has successfully installed the Cypress UART drivers on Win 10 please let us know.

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for the response - I did try the steps in that forum, but unfortunately to no avail :( The Cypress UART driver directory in C:Program Files (x86)CypressCypress USB-Serial DriverDriverBinaryCDC_Driverbin has no sub-folder for Windows 10, and Device Manager will not allow me to install the driver for Windows 7 or 8.

Just to be certain, are you sure you are plugging into the USB-UART port? ZedBoard has 3 microUSB ports. If plugging in automatically installed the Digilent drivers, then that tells me you are plugged into the microUSB on the top of the board between the barrel jack and the audio jacks labeled PROG.

What happens if you plug into the microUSB on the left side of the board nearest the ON/OFF switch labeled UART?

I have also submitted a case to Cypress checking on Windows 10 compatibility.

    Bryan

Preliminary driver update from Cypress, including Windows 10. This link is only good for 1 week from today. Cypress will be posting this themselves soon, so I'm told.

Note -- I have not tried this myself!

    Hi Bryan,

Thank you very much for this - your two posts solved the problem. I was indeed plugged into the wrong USB port on the board, and changing it, combined with installing the driver you posted, did the trick!

That is good news! I also got some additional information from Cypress.

These are the official drivers that will be released. Currently we are making an installer for this so that the customer doesn't have to manually install them. So we are taking time. But the drivers are being pushed through Windows update already. So the drivers are public through Windows Update.
