ZedBoard + AD FMCOMMS1 SDR HANGS at BOOT

I received 2 SD cards and tried them both. The one that produces results is the 4 GB unmarked card. I power both boards on, wait for SD to load, get blue LEDs on both boards, LD9 goes out and I get color bars on the VGA monitor and 2 penguin icons in the upper left HDMI screen. The mouse is plugged into the USB OTG and produces no cursor on either screen. I read some more getting started and installed jumpers at JP3 & JP6, same result.

I also plugged UART USB to PC, the driver installed incorrectly and zed is not recognized by PC.

I am an RF engineer not a coder.

Need help,
Craig

    Hi Craig,

Sorry you're having trouble.  The SD card that produces color bars (VGA) and dual penguins (HDMI) is the standard ZedBoard reference design.  The other SD card should contain the ADI image.  The first step is to make sure that card was programmed correctly.  Please insert it into a PC.  Do you see a file structure?

If you do find that the card is corrupt or blank, the instructions to re-image with the latest version of reference designs is here:

Thanks Matt, I used minitool partition wizard in Win 7 to make BOOT and rootfs per the link you provided. I installed VM Shell and umbutu to a Win 7 OS and do see both BOOT & rootfs folders/files now in umbutu. I copied the working SD card files to the BOOT sector of the 4GB SD card and ZED does not boot. I compare the file sizes on both SD cards and they are the same. This is one issue.

The second issue is I got a selection of folders from which to copy ADI image from old SD card and these choices confuse me. I go to ADI link to download latest AD-FMCOMMS1

    https://wiki.analog.com/resources/eval/user-guides/ad-fmcomms1-ebz/software/linux

and I am again presented with too many choices. Is there a link to a simgle download for AD-FMCOMMS1?

    Thanks,
    Craig

    Hi Craig,

I'm not sure what went wrong, but I've never done the partition manually.   Instead, can you follow the instructions for *imagining* the SD card?

Download the latest image here:  https://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/linux-software/zynq_images

Do the checksum to make sure nothing was corrupted during download.

Use the 8GB SD card included with the kit (you should have an 8 and 4 GB card).

Once the SD card is imaged, copy the contents of the following folder into the root directory of the SD card:

    zynq-zed-adv7511-fmcomms1

It should be that simple.  You should not see any other designs for the combination of ZedBoard + FMCOMMS1 on the SD card.

    /Matt
