running RPU FW from External memory

okarin
okarin over 7 years ago

I'm trying to run a simple "hello world" RPU standalone application from external memory.

Using 2017.4 tools, on Zynq UltraScale+ EG.

I've modified the lscript so all segments are on the external memory. The controller resides in the PL.

I'm using jtag to try and run it.

As soon as the first instruction is attempted (some register init), it failes with:

cdple   p14, 10, c11, c13, c15, 7

Which I think denotes that instructions were not be fetched.

What am I missing?

    Hello Okarin,

What development board are you using?

I'm using a custom-made board, which is pretty similar to the UltraZed-EG SOM on the UltraZed IO Carrier Card.

I also have UltraZed-EG SOM on the UltraZed IO Carrier Card (production), but as far as I know there is no external memory on it (I don't mind running the test on it).

Sorry for double posting, I wanted to edit my previous reply, but was unable to find how.

    Hi,

Why not try to run it on the DDR memory the UltraZed SOM has access to?

I am able to run the code from DDR and TCM. No problems. It works.

The point is I need to run it from external memory.

At any rate, it turns out that the address range of the device lies in the address range where R5 instruction execution is not permitted (MPU prohibits):

        0xBFFFFFFF    -    -

    Shared Device

    Shared

    Device

        Execute Never
        0xA0000000

So I'm trying to either move the device address range or disabling the MPU.

If it makes sense, and you have some info to share, you're welcome.
