Design files for Getting Started Example

Hi, I just received a MicroZed Evaluation Kit.  The getting started example (v1.1) is a good starting demonstration of what the board can do.  Now I want to see how to modify the underlying software/hardware.  And the note mentions "Xilinx Vivado Design Edition tools are also introduced where the design can be built from scratch and customization options can be discovered."

Although this would have been a nice next step to see how to add additional functionality, I completely disagree.  The tools are NOT introduced.  Is there a more recent version of this file?  Or a follow up article?

At a minimum I at least need the design files that the board comes pre-programmed with.

I have Vivado 2013.3.

Thanks for the help!

Chris

The files can be found under the reference design page.  This should be noted in the getting started guide.  The training and videos is really not very useful as it's all for older stuff.

Take a look at the MicroZed Reference Designs/Tutorials page: http://www.zedboard.org/design/1519/10

These tutorials were done with Vivado 2013.2 and are in the process of being updated to Vivado 2013.4, but you should be able to work with Vivado 2013.3 with minor changes. Note that in Vivado 2013.3 there is a board 'preset' for MicroZed and if the QSPI Flash is used there is a manual correction required: http://www.zedboard.org/content/qspi-feedback-clk-missing-vivado-20133-microzed-preset

The issue is corrected in Vivado 2013.4.

It looks like the only way to get the files that the device shipped with is to revert to ISE tool.  I thought this was largely unsupported now?  It seems that "Open Source Linux QSPI Image Tutorial" is the proper set of files?  Is it possible to develop HDL for the Zynq in Vivado, program the board, and never need ISE or a JTAG cable?

Avnet has live Zynq 'Speedway' training seminars with hands on labs for either the ZedBoard or MicroZed going on in mulitple locations right now:

Both the Zynq Hardware and Zynq Software sessions, each a day long session with hands on labs, can be performed with the MicroZed board.

While the demo Linux shipped with the MicroZed was developed earlier with the older ISE tools, more current versions are available on the Xilinx website. As an example you can download a version of Linux corresponding the the 2013.4 Vivado tools for Zedboard here: http://www.wiki.xilinx.com/Zynq+2013.4+Release

The Vivado tool suite can be used to develop HDL designs for Zynq without using ISE tools. While you could develop and program the board without a JTAG cable, most find it useful to use the JTAG cable and download during development.

As I mentioned earlier, Avnet has hands on training sessions targeting Zynq developement using either the ZedBoard or MicroZed board for the labs. There are sessions for learning to develop Linux on Zynq as well as the Zynq Hardware and Software sessions previously mentioned:
