Zedboard doesn't boot with Xilinx 2015.2 Release

Hi, all. I seem to be having issues getting to the Zedboard to boot using the files in the Xilinx Zynq 2015.2 release tarball (http://www.wiki.xilinx.com/Zynq+2015.2+Release). I copy the ramdisk and uImage kernels over to the SD card, and the Boot.bin and DTB from the zed subdir from that release. However, it seems to hang "Starting kernel ..." and never recovers.

I've seem this same issue with releases from 2013.4 through 2015.2. None of those will boot. However, 14.7/2013.3 will boot. What is the work around for this? If this is an incorrect setting in the DTS for the zedboard, what setting is incorrect? Is this only an issue with older boards? I've had mine for just under 2 years now.

Thanks,

-Dirv

Could this issue be related to GPIO Support? See https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Embedded-Linux/Zedboard-hangs-at-quot-starting-kernel-quot/td-p/368313

That being said I've tried to disable that referenced option to no avail. It seem to be required. From menuconfig screen:

    u2502 CONFIG_GPIO_XILINX:                                                                                                         u2502

    Hi Dirv,

Having an older board should not be a problem from what I can tell.

I tried booting those Xilinx Zynq Linux 2015.2 release files on my Rev. B, Rev. C, and Rev. D ZedBoard and they all boot up to the command prompt just fine.

If you were using your own hardware platform definition from Vivado, I would say that there could be a problem with the triple timer counter not being enabled as seen here:

    http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/60666.html

Since that does not appear to be the case, are you running with any peripherals plugged into ZedBoard?  Have you double checked your jumper settings?  Anything connected other than USB-UART cable and power?

If not any of the above, by process of elimination, I suppose there could be something strange going on with your SD card.  Have you tried using a different SD card?

    Regards,

    -Kevin

Hi, Kevin. I don't have a custom HW platform. I also verified the jumper settings, and what I have match to what is on page 35 of the HW UG. The boot jumpers have selected the SD card. I am using the SD card that came with the Zedboard, but I haven't tried others. I have nothing else plugged into the Zedboard - only the USB-UART cable.

As a bit of an aside, I've tried several of the Xilinx Zynq releases. I can get 14.7/2013.3 to boot just fine. However 2013.4 on will not boot. Uboot comes up and it seems to reads the device tree fine - it just halts after the "Starting kernel" message.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

    -D
