Problem : can't execute a helloworld example on my zedboard

Hi zedboard community,

I am a beginner using SoCs and embedded systems. I am actually trying to get familiar with my zedboard zynq-7000 xc7z020clg484-1. I found an interesting tutorial here that helps to run a helloworld example on the board(using PlanAhead, XPS, and SDK). I followed all the steps as described but when it comes to run : first the system asked me if I want to install a software named "jungo" I said yes any way but I got an "unexpectable error" and messages such as "error opening JTAG UART @localhost : -1" and "make all : rien u00E0 faire".

I have no idea how to fix that so please could any one here help me dealing with this.

First, if you are new to the Xilinx tools I would recommend you start with the current Vivado tool suite, as that is where all new tutorials and reference designs will be targeted.

In any case you will need to give us a little more information for useful help:
What is your host operating system (i.e. Windows 7 64 bit).
What tutorial are you attempting to use and what version of the Xilinx tools does the tutorial target? Exactly where in the tutorial did you have a problem.
What version of the Xilinx tools do you have installed on your host machine?
Is your ZedBoard a rev. C or a rev D. board?

Actually I am working with this tutorial http://zedboard.org/sites/default/files/design/ZedBoard_CTT_v14.1_120821.zip since I have the 14.1 version of ISE on my windows 7 64 bit. As I said, I followed all the steps described in there but when I ran (page 24 of the tutorial) I got an unexpected error and it said "error opening JTAG UART @localhost : -1" on the SDK.
About tools I found the VIVADO design suite 2012 and ISE Design suite 14 installation DVDs with my board but the licence I got is only for ISE design suite that's why I'm working with it..

The license voucher should work for ISE or Vivado tools. You can download the Vivado tools from the Xilinx web site: http://www.xilinx.com/support/download/index.htm

The Zedboard Zynq device is also included in the free WebPack version of the tools, you would just not have the analyzer option with WebPack. In the latest versions of the Vivado tools the SDK is not enabled by default to make sure to check that option.
