ZedBoard missing jumper?

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hi everybody!

I am starting to use ZedBoard for a University project, and I was about to boot Xillinux from the SD card when I realized I could not set the board as indicated here (http://zedboard.org/content/zedboard-bring), simply because I have not enough jumpers (meant as the tiny blue part, don't know if there's a specific word for it).

My board came with 7 of them, 5 for the JP7 to 11 pins, one on JP2 and one to select voltage on J18, so I miss one for JP6.

Is this normal, am I supposed to find/buy one of them somewhere else? Or was it an error during production/shipping?

Thanks in advance (it seems like a very stupid question, but I really have no clue how to go on)

    Hi serenac,

I am sorry that your board did not come with the right number of jumpers.  This must have been a mistake in ZedBoard production and it is not normal so I apologize that you received the board in this condition. However, I think I can offer some advice on how you can move forward with getting started with your ZedBoard.

I think at one point, several years ago now, on the Rev. C boards the JP6 equivalent was needed for booting from SD card.  I just verified on my Rev. D ZedBoard that you can boot from the SD card without JP6 installed.

If you have some doubts about needing JP6 and you are not using the FMC connector J1 yet, then you can remove the voltage select jumper at J18 and move that over to JP6.  The voltage select sets the bank voltage used on the FPC expansion and if you remove the jumper, it simply defaults to the safest option which is 1.8V.

The most critical jumpers to have in place for booting are mode jumpers at JP7-JP11 so as long as those are set correctly, you should be able to get started.

These are standard jumpers that were used on PCs and other development boards, there is nothing special about the ones used on ZedBoard and you could use a piece of wire instead.  If you feel like you really do need that missing jumper to go on with your work, please PM me and we can work something out for you.

    Regards,

    -Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

thank you very much. It worked indeed without the JP6 jumper. I was too worried about following the guide to give it a try without asking!
