MicroZed Evaluation Kit - JTAG problems

dune_userfog
dune_userfog over 9 years ago

Hello,
I'm using a Microzed (7010) Evaluation Kit  with Vivado (2014.4) and SDK (2014.4) on Win7 Pro/64bit for evaluation purposes.

The SD Boot worked fine while I'm experiencing some problems using the "FPGA Program" command in the SDK (HelloWorld example).
The errors are "Connection to Board Failed - Cable is not powered on" or "Connection to Board Failed - Could not find a supported debug device on the board.Check if the jumper settings on the board are correct" (randomly).

I'm using a Xilinx Platform Cable USB (DLC9G).

It appears correctly connected and powered (green led) and the jumper settings are exactly the same reported in the HelloWorld example (Cascaded JTAG Boot Mode).

All suggestions are welcome.
Thank you

    Hello Dune,

It looks as if your setup is correct. Just to confirm your jumper settings are setup in JTAG Boot Mode(See Picture Below)?

    image

If this is correct, then all I can think of is an issue with your Xilinx Platform Cable USB. We here at Avnet suggest the use of the Digilent HS3 JTAG Cable for Zynq Development. https://products.avnet.com/parts/components/2004746-digilent-jtag-hs3-programming-cable-xilinx-fpgas-jtag-hs3-high-speed-cable.html

If you still want to use the Xilinx Platform cable then I would suggest you ask this question over at the Xilinx Community Forum under the configuration section. Also if you could post a link to your forum post, it would be very helpful to the community.

    Thanks,

    Josh

    Hello Josh,
    thank you for fast reply.

I confirm the jumper settings in the picture.

As suggested, I'm evaluating known problems regarding the used platform cable on Xilinx site. If I found a solution I would report it here.

However, the adoption of the Digilent HS3 JTAG Cable is probably the best choice to save time.

Thank you so much for help.

    Hello,

I would like to follow up on this post as I am having the same issue (not being able to detect the device when programming Hello World over cascaded JTAG) following the Xilinx Speedway course (Lab 2). This is my setup...

    •   Windows 10
    •   Vivado 2018.2
    •   I was able to properly boot from the SD Card into Linux and interface with the device that way
    •   All 3x Jumpers are in the correct position (1-2)
    •   The green LED (D5) is illumindated, as is the red LED (D3)
    •   I am using the JTAG-HS3 JTAG cable, with FTDI driver version 2.12.28.0

Even with the correct JTAG cable, I am receiving the error: 'Could not find FPGA device on the board for connection 'Local''. Any help would be appreciated!

I'd like to update this in case there are others who had the same issue as me. I am using the MicroZed I/O Carrier Card, and as such, the JTAG header on the MicroZed is not accessible when mated onto the I/O Carrier Card. I plugged the HS3 JTAG cable into J2 of the Carrier Card, and was able to flash my program.
