USB 3.0 FMC Board

Hello Zynq peeps,

I have started on USB 3.0 based project and I am planning build FMC Connector board with USB 3.0 peripheral on board. What is your thoughts? Do you think it might be useful with ZedBoard or with your future porjects?

Also I am planning to include imaging sensor, so you can stream your data out from USB 3.0 port.

Please let me know and I will finalize the initial design and post the design materials, so it can be reviewed.

This sounds like a great idea! There is a Cypress FX3 device on the Kintex-7 MMP, and I see lots of people getting excited about that. I see no reason why bringing USB 3.0 to the Zedboard, and Zynq designs in general wouldn't be beneficial (especially all of the hard stuff is done in the FX3 device so you aren't struggling with the USB stack).

Would you plan on using the FX3? Or a different solution?

But don't let that discourage you! Just because someone is doing something doesn't mean they are doing it the right way, or doing it the best way. There is always room for competition in these kinds of markets.

I am planning to build something really similar to Inrevium USB 3.0 FMC card with FX3 device, but what I am planning to do is build a FMC module which is more affordable on the price wise, so more people can work with USB 3.0 platform and use in their project. Inrevium boards are around 900 EUR for 1 FMC board.

Also I am excited about the Kintex-7 MMP, I would like to buy one but at the moment trying to get my hands on ZedBoard at the moment.

At the moment it is taking a longer then I expected to create the FMC connector PCB footprint, so once I completed that I will post more information about the project.

Unfortunately I am using Altium Designer for this Project, but thank you.
After I build the library I will create the PCB library in git-hub as well so other people who uses Altium can use this library as well.

p.s Also I am a big fan of your blog, if this project goes well if you want I can send you one of the sample boards for testing as well. Keep up your good job
