Kernel and u-boot source

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

Dear lazyweb ....

Anyone have a link for the zedboard kernel and u-boot sources? I'd like to spend some time next week updating the Yocto BSP for the zedboard and it would be very helpful to know where the "official" sources are.

Also, how are people getting the fsbl? I do not think my copy of ISE knows about the zedboard.

It seems like there are several kernel repos that might work, xilinx/next, some analog devices repo and possibly a digilent one.

Philip

PS: Xilinx, this question shouldn't be this hard to answer.

    Hi balister,

What I would refer to as the official ZedBoard sources is really the Xilinx Git repository.  There you will find the latest and greatest updates for Zynq.

You can browse the repository directly via HTTP from this site:

    http://git.xilinx.com

There is a lot of help on where to start to be found on the Xilinx wiki:

    http://wiki.xilinx.com

Basically, for ZedBoard we have been using the official Xilinx repositories and release tags and we have had good success with this method.  I recommend using the 14.2 release tags for each since these are known to work well with relatively few bumps along the road.  For U-Boot there is a ZedBoard defconfig file which you can use for building U-Boot.  For the Linux kernel, we simply use the ZC702 defconfig for building the kernel.

There is a new project template within SDK which will help you create a basic FSBL based upon your hardware platform settings from XPS.

Avnet is coming out with some training videos in a few weeks which will guide users through the process of building each of these components in much more detail.  Stay tuned!

    Regards,

    -Kevin

In addition to what zedhed has said:

The u-boot sources are the same as the official xilinx ones, the Digilent Kernel can be cloned using:

    git clone git://github.com/Digilent/linux-3.3-digilent.git

Version 14.3 of the Xilinx Tool Suite has support for the Zedboard built in to the PlanAhead/EDK flow.

    Update:

According to http://www.zedboard.org/content/linux-33-digilentgit-repository-password-protected the Dilgilent Kernel has moved, it's now at https://github.com/Digilent/linux-digilent.git

    @balister

I cloned your repository a while ago and added Zedboard support to it. All you need to do is pull it.
    https://github.com/milosoftware/meta-zynq

I'm actively adding stuff to it, so if you have contributions, please cooperate :)

@milsoftware, I am following your layer. You are mixing no bsp commits in with the bsp work, so it is hard to sort out what commits are strictly bsp and which are not.

I want to keep my bsp layer, strictly bsp layer and add the required kernel recipes there. It looks like there are three kernels repos with zedboard stuff now (xilinx, adi, and digilent)

Also, this forum is almost impossible to use due to the spam and captcha codes for every operation.
