Relation between vivado and yocto on zedboard?

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Dear,

I've followed architect's guide (http://architechboards-zedboard.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html) to install yocto, and now i have yocto running on zedboard.

Now I have 2 problems:

1- When I program the fpga from vivado or sdk  the yocto seems freezing, as the terminal throug usb uart becomes inactive, any idea why and how can I program fpga and keep yocto running?

2- how to create an application in vivad sdk which targeting yocto, so that the elf file will run on yocto?

Thanks

    Hi jhonnylamma,

It sounds like you are using the USB-JTAG to download the code to the ZedBoard target AFTER Yocto has booted, correct?

For #1, when PL code is downloaded via JTAG it is important to not have the PS interacting with the PL while the PL configuration is changing.  See this thread here for more details:

    https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Embedded-Linux/Zynq-board-load-a-bitstream-in-fpga-form-linux/td-p/276930

For #2, Since you are running Linux on the target you can use SDK to develop a Linux user space application.  Take a look at this video from Xilinx:

    https://www.xilinx.com/video/soc/debug-linux-application-using-xilinx-sdk.html

    Regards,

    -Kevin
