Desktop environment crashes when connected to a 4K display

Hello,

I am running a MaaXBoard with the stock Debian image provided by Avnet. For my application I need to be able to use the desktop environment. 

When connected to a 1080p display the desktop environment functions as expected, however when I connect it to a 4K display it crashes as soon as any movement is made from the mouse or keyboard.

I have tried manually configuring the output resolution to 1920x1080 in weston.ini and weston.ini-hdmi (~/etc/xdg/weston), neither seems to affect the display resolution output. 

Any support appreciated.

    Here's an answer unlessl you (hopefully) receive a better one!

    I have no idea what the issue is, but might be worth checking (if you have not already done so) /var/log in case anything logged an event when it crashed.

    Also it might be worth trying a different USB C power supply just in case that cannot support the load (the Raspberry Pi "official" power supply is a good one because it is dumb, it supplies high current without power negotiation, whereas more smarter mobile phone USB C supplies might not do that.

    All the above are guesses - I have not used a MaaXBoard.
