Can someone tell me if the two boards below are compatible in terms of physical layout and software:

 

BD-Z7MB-7Z020-G, AES-Z7MB-7Z020-SOM-G/REV-F.

    Hi there,

     

    The first part number does not sound like a modern part number, maybe an older one?  Can you tell me where you saw that part number?  That might help me track this down.

    Thanks, Dan!

     

    We are running out of the 2nd part and it is back-ordered (2022?). So I found the first part on EBay. From the photos, it appears that both are the same. I thought AVNET tech people would know? Appreciated!

    Hi there,

     

    If this is for production, I would suggest NOT buying the one from eBay.  There is a lot of risk in that.

     

    The boards are backordered due to parts shortages.  I would have to see how far away, but January 2022 does sound plausible.

     

    From what I could determine, that was an original number way back when (7+ years ago!).

    To answer your questions:

    • If you do decide to buy that anyway, the electrical footprint should match.
    • I cannot say that EVERY aspect of modern software will work.  It should be pretty good/close, but I couldn't tell you for certain it would be fine due to the many revisions MicroZed has had.

     

    I can tell you to be VERY VERY cautious.  There have been many revisions of the board and there are some that while are PIN compatible are not electrically compatible.  There were some revisions to correct issues over time and it is possible that this board would electrically damage another designed for a different revision.  Remember that this was one of the first Zynq boards out there and thus had a learning curve as the Zynq part was flushed out!

    If you decide to proceed, ensure you get the exact revision and check all the errata / PCN / etc. that are all posted on the product page.

    We do not provide any warranty for parts that have been purchased through eBay - although at the age of this board, that is certainly up anyway.  I would also ask about warranty and see if you can get some sort of guarantee on the IO functionality.  The IO's are VERY robust and I have seen boards where someone was not handling them properly and ESD killed a few IO - while the rest of the chip functioned perfectly fine.

     

    The best course I can recommend is follow up with your local FAE.  They can help guide you to the fastest way to get your hands on an official board.

    Thanks, Dan, again! I will hold on then.

    I suspect 28nm and older nodes were used for the chips in Microzed boards. One-year back-order is very hard for everyone. Hope AVNET can do better!
