Microzed - module and connectors footprint

mangibu
mangibu over 12 years ago

It would be great for the community to have a footprint of the 2 connectors of the microzed as eagle device to make sure that they are in the right position for designing individual Carrier Cards.

Maybe Avnet could provide such a footprint???

Thank you.

Michael

We are looking at providing an easy-to-use footprint for MicroZed that you could use to design your own Carrier board. We use Altium, so that would be the native format. Altium also has the ability to export to PADs. It does not seem to have Eagle export capability. Do you know if Eagle can import Altium or PADs?

    Thanks for a great suggestion!

If it's not too much trouble, maybe one possibility is Eagleu2019s u201CUser Language Programs (ULPs)u201D.

I found the following ULP here u201Chttp://www.cadsoftusa.com/downloads/file/import-accel.ulpu201D:
    import-accel.ulp
u201CAfter initial export of P-CAD / Altium and Protel boards and schematics to ACCEL ASCII format (also kown as TangoPRO ASCII or P-CAD ASCII ) you can import your designs herewith into EAGLE. Beside English and German this ULP also supports Russian language.u201D

I'm designing a carrier board for the MicroZED, but I can't find in any documentation the diameter of the mounting holes on the 4 corners of the board. I'd like to match them on the carrier, and also use the same hardware for other mounting holes on the board. So in there a number for those holes? (Note that I can find the positions of the holes in the HW User Guide.)

P.S. I have geda PCB footprint for the microheaders that I'd be willing to share, but this forum doesn't seem to have a way to attach files.

This would be great, thanks a lot.
I think the best way to share it is to create a Community Projects here http://www.zedboard.org/projects.
Again, thanks for sharing your work.
    Michael.

The 4 corner holes are 125 mil diameter.

As suggested by Mangibu, you can share your work through the Community Projects page.

i'm a long time user of AVNET evals with a faint glimmer of hope this suggestion reaches the design engineer/layout person.

please make the JX1/2 pin assignments as symmetric as possible, this way i can make an accessory card and attach it to either (or even better, both) connector(s) with out having a carrier board.  imagine one ADC card (about 3/4 the width of microzed) that will work on either connector.

please do continue to make the connector symmetric about the left/right axis, these can pass through the accessory card from top to bottom, where you can

i understand placing JTAG on one and PMOD on the other,
but changing the assignments after pin 90 just seems unnecessary.

i'm a long time user of AVNET evals with a glimmer of hope this suggestion reaches the design engineer/layout person,
or maybe a rev. can be made now if the board is in ECO...

please make the JX1/2 pin assignments as symmetric as possible,
this way i can make an accessory card and attach it to either (or even better, both) connector(s) with out having a carrier board.
imagine one ADC card (about 3/4 the width of microzed) that will work on either connector.

    reading further from my list,
thanks for making the connector symmetric about the left/right axis,
i can pass these signals through my accessory card from top to bottom,
where you can i can place another JX1/2 and start fresh, imagine four ADC cards stacked 2x2...

concerning the way JX1/2 are currently laid out,
i understand placing JTAG on one and PMOD on the other,
but changing the assignments after pin 90 seems sloppy.

    <soap box off>

    -peter.

p.s. thank you for using dual row connectors for JX1/2 and not that crappy VITA57.1 FMC which you can't probe, verify if it's soldered, fan out properly nor get vertical separation...down with VITA and it's mixed mode HPC/LPC thing!  <soap box burned>

I am also using Altium and would like if you could share the library component you have used for the carrier board. I have made my own one, but it would be better to have one I am 100% sure it will fit with my carrier board I would like to design.

Avnet has released an Altium symbol and footprint for the MicroZed. This is now posted under "Layout" on the MicroZed Docs page: http://www.zedboard.org/documentation/1519.

Make sure to read the README. You will have to manually add the two JX connectors to your BOM, along with the specific MicroZed version to your system assembly BOM.

Legally, I also have to say use at your own risk. Please verify our work in your own design. If you find an issue, please address it here through the forums.

Has anyone downloaded and used the provided Altium footprint?  The vault file provided shows up as Avnet temporary vault (error unknown vault) on my system.  It seems Altium wants the server address and login info to access the footprint and schematic symbol.
