PS clock to PL

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hi,

Im new to MicroZed, so excuse any blunder of mine.

Im trying to write a simple VHDL code to turn on and off the LED, and when i was about to write the constraints file i looked to the clock pin but i discovered that the clock is from the PS.

Any help? thank you.

    Hello,

I am not sure what your question is.

You can source a clock from the PS (Processor System) section to the PL (Programmable Logic) section of the Zynq device or you can provide a clock externally via PL signal pins. There is no PL connected clock on the MicroZed board so you would need to provide one via the JX connectors if that is what you want.

yes my question was about how to write the constraints of the clock.

how can i source a clock from the PS to the PL?

    thank you.

    Hello,

If you double click the Zynq Processing System IP block in your Vivado Block Design to 'customize' the block select 'Clock Configuration' from the Page Navigator on the left. Then expand 'PL Fabric Clocks'. You can enable any or all of the four FCLK_CLKx clocks there and set the requested frequency. If you selected the Microzed Board at the begining of your design and ran "Block Automation' after placing the Zynq IP block, FCLK_CLK0 should already be enabled and set to 100 MHz.

The enabled clock output, FCLK_CLK0 by default, will show up as an output of the Zynq PS IP block. You can connect this output to the IP containing your HDL code. No constraints are needed to make this connection.
