carrier card design

I'm building a custom carrier card for the MicroZed and after looking at the lead time for buying a MicroZed board, I'm wondering if I can buy a PicoZed instead and have it work.  Is there some summary of what needs to be done to be able to have a carrier card support both a MicroZed and a PicoZed?  I do need the ethernet connector, but other than that, I don't need anything special from the MicroZed.  It seems like there's a lot of overlap, but I was wondering if someone's already done this analysis that I can use rather than doing it myself.  Thanks.

    Hello,

First let me comment that, due to updates and changes in our backend SW and process, we are currently showing lead times online that are much longer than the 'real' lead times. We are also currently not able to process 'online' orders. If you would like to get a realistic lead time for any of the MicroZed boards you can call and request a quote. In any case I am told that we should have stock in all versions of our SOMs by the first week in June, and some more quickly.

That said you could make a carrier card that would work for both MicroZed and PicoZed although I don't think it would be an ideal solution. There is a PicoZed Carrier Design Guide on the PicoZed documentation page that is a good place to start:

    http://picozed.org/support/documentation/4736

The PicoZed is designed to require a carrier card and does not have any of the physical interfaces implemented on the card other than the Boot Mode switches.

If you need Ethernet, USB-UART, or USB-OTG,  as well as the MGTs or additional I/O available on the PicoZed 7015 and 7030 you will need to add the JX3 connection to your carrier card.

There are also no JTAG or PMOD/IO connectors or user LEDs or Push Buttons on the PicoZed but some of these could be supported via the JX1 and JX2 connectors.

    -Gary
