12V Supply vs. 5V

Hey,

I have a short question. I want to build a Carrier Card for the MicroZed and I read that I can use for supply voltage 12V or 5V. And I also read that the MicroZed have with 12V an higher power consumption.

So my question is, using 5V(from the u00B5Headers) instead of 12V do I loose computing power on the chip? Or is there a different mode if I'm using 12V? Or what I'am losing if I take 5V?

I use the board with the 7020 Zynq.

    Hello Christian,

     

    You can use a supply voltage of 12 V for the MicroZed, but it does require some modifications to the MicroZed as outlined in section 2.10.2 of the MicroZed Users Guide:

    You will also  need to reference the MicroZed schematic:

    The only additional power consumption should be from the addition of the regulator dropping the 12V input to 5V. Otherwise the operation of the MicroZed should be identical, with no reduction in computing power.

     

    You can also request a quote for customized MicroZed SOMs with the 12V modifications made at the factory. Contact your local Avnet / Silica FAE for details, or you can contact customize@avnet.com if you do not know your local FAE.
