Microzed BBRAM?

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hello,

we would like to try the BBRAM feature (+ secure boot) with a Microzed eval board.  What do we need to do to be able to try that?  I saw that FPGA_VBATT is connected to one microheader pin, are we supposed to somehow attach a battery?  Or use the Microzed breakout carrier card?  Could you please give some (somewhat detailed) information, we are mainly not hardware guys...

Thanks!

    Hello akospasztory.

Yes you will need to attach an external battery to the FPGA_VBATT pin. You can either do that through the Som or the Breakout Carrier Card. To determine the pin on the Som look at the MicroZed Hardware User's Guide pg. 19 (JX1 pin#7).

To determine the pin on the Breakout Carrier Card look at the MicroZed Breakout Carrier Card User Guide pg. 6 (CON5, pin1)

Here are some resources you may find helpful getting started with secure boot.

thanks, that was a conclusion too.  How about desoldering R12 and attaching the battery there?  would that also work?

also, how about PL efuse programming: xapp1175 says that to program the PL efuses, 4 MIOs from the PS must be routed to the JTAG pins (pg. 40).  Is this done on the MicroZed board?

If not, how should this be done?

    Hello Akospasztory,

Looking at the schematic, desoldering R12 and attaching the battery there seems like a viable solution.

The 4 MIOs are not connected to JTAG on the microZed, one option you have is to take the 4 MIOs from the JX1 and JX2 connectors and route them to a custom JTAG on your carrier card.
