VCCO Bank 34,35 & 13

Hi,

 

I'm confused regarding how the IO Banks on JX1/2 should be powered. It's obvious that these can be powered externally from the JX1/JX2 pins VCCO_35/34/13.  

But if i use voltages available in Vivado, standard LVDS, do i still need to provide power to these JX1/2 pins? 

Or is it only needed to provide external powers to thses VCCO pins when i wan't to use a voltage outside of standard voltage levels?

    Hello Pela,

    You will need to provide power from the JX1/JX2 pins. Bank 34, Bank 35, and Bank 13 VCCO are powered ONLY by the Carrier Card via the JX1 and JX2 pins. You only need to power the bank(s) you want to use. The arrangement allows you the option to provide different IO voltages to the individual banks and to size the power supply as needed for your application.

    Hello TroutChaser,

     

    I understand that it is necessary to power those banks externally. In my case I am looking for a voltage regulator for my custom carrier board but I am not sure about the output current required to power these banks. My design does not have any external hardware to power and the I/O in the Microzed would only be used for SPI communications (from PL), low voltage input signals to be processed by the PS and external analog inputs for the XADC (in total 96 pins: 80 I/O plus 8 differential analog signals).

    I have seen the schematics of the different Microzed carrier boards but I understand that they are intended to manage external hardware and because of that they use voltage regulators capable of providing high current ratings. With this, I consider that since my custom carrier board will only manage I/O signals, banks 34, 35 and 13 will require much lower current ratings but how could I determine that current consumption? Initially, I/O in the Microzed would be set as LVCMOS 3.3V @ 2mA to interface with the integrated circuits of the carrier board.

    Hi Victor,

    the best way to figure this out would be to use the XPE tool and define your actual bank voltages and I/O standards.  Then the max current recorded back to you in the summary on the front page should reflect your real worst case current.  A good starting point would be the posted XPE files from the documentation tab - http://zedboard.org/support/documentation/1519

    These were used to calculate our worst case figures.  The I/O banks you can define to your specifications and that should give you a good idea on how much current you need.
